Appearance:
A biped, Ördög possesses a male human torso and upper body, with the lower body of a black goat equipped with cloven hooves, large horns and a tail sporting a sharp blade at its end. He is also endowed with an abnormally large phallus, similar to a Greek satyr. Is sometimes depicted brandishing a pitchfork.
Purpose/Role:
- Dwells in Pokol, the Hungarian underworld, where he stirs a giant cauldron filled with the souls of the damned
- Is constantly on the lookout for more souls to collect
- Visits Earth in the form of a fox, dark flame or shepherd and tests humans by various means to ascertain how corruptible they are
- Displays a tendency to hide in the walls of human households and emit subtle yet bizarre, high-pitched noises
- Is identified with Satan or the Devil by Christians
