Appearance:
The Zabaniyya are said to have frightening exteriors and are most easily identified by the flames that constantly leap from their mouths.
Purpose/Role:
- Assist the angels of death, including Azrael, seizing the souls of the unjust
- As hellhounds (in Turkic lore) who reside in the underworld and torture sinners
- One of the Zabaniyya is ordered to show Muhammad the punishments of hell as means to deter him from committing sinful acts
