Appearance:

In the past, succubi were usually depicted as frightening or demonic feminine creatures, with bird-like claws and/or serpentine tails. In more modern representations, they often appear in the guise of an attractive young seductress or enchantress.

Purpose/Role:

• Seduce and drive men to insanity or cause severe mental deterioration, perhaps even death, through repeated rape or consensual sex
• Goad men into committing sinful sexual acts and leading them into lives of temptation and licentiousness
• Are known to invade one's dreams as well as one's waking life
