God of Death, Shepherd of Pestilence
Enlil (father), Ereshkigal (mother), Hušbišag (wife)
Namtar is humanoid, most likely, as little is known of his appearance. It is said that he keeps a low profile, skulking under the cover of darkness and operating from the shadows.
- Commands sixty distinct diseases in the form of demons that can penetrate different areas of the human body
- Collects sacrifices during the night that humans have performed for him in the hope that he will not plague them
- Some sources regard Namtar as the personification of death itself, much like the modern notion of the Grim Reaper
