Most sources claim that Mammon has a wolf-like or canine appearance, representative of a ravenous appetite. He is occasionally depicted as a gargantuan humanoid composed of substances that provoke the avarice of man, such as gold, diamond and other precious metals and stones.
Purpose/Role:
- As one who instills in man a desire for unjustly world gain, Mammon pits humans against one another, directing them from harmony to a life of savagery and insatiability
- Historically, the term "mammon" has been used to denote money, material wealth and anything that seduces or enslaves via promises thereof
- Is associated to this day with money-grubbing and the selfish pursuit of financial gain
- During the Middle Ages, the name was assigned to a demon of covetousness who values material treasures above all else
