This powerful demon is said to have fire-spewing eyes, a serpent's tail and three heads—a bull's, a man's, and a ram's. Balam is never seen without his two most loyal beast-servants—a hawk that clings to his fist or shoulder, and a massive, ferocious bear whom he bestrides.

Purpose/Role:

• His primary function is as a General in Hell's army, commanding over forty legions of demons
• He delivers with perfect accuracy statements on the past, present and future
• Balam is known to increase others' wit, cunning and craftiness
• It is also said that he teaches others how to spy and surveil without themselves being seen, sometimes verging on invisibility
